Switchover

In 2005, the government announced the final timetable for the Digital Switchover. Starting in 2008 and ending in 2012, TV services in the UK are going completely digital.

The change will happen on a region by region basis - this process is called Digital Switchover. The UK’s old (analogue) television signal will be switched off and replaced with a “digital” signal. To find out when the switchover is expected in your area visit www.digitaluk.co.uk

From Switchover any property that can’t receive a good quality digital signal will no longer be able to receive TV programmes.

There are many benefits to digital switchover:

• Free Extra TV channels - you’ll receive all your usual TV channels and many more as standard including BBC Three & Four, ITV2 &3, E4, More 4, Film4, S4C2, Cbeebies, CBBC, CITV.
• Subscription channels - if you choose to take out a subscription, you can get many more dedicated channels including sport, films and music channels.
• Improved quality - Digital TV will improve the quality of your TV picture.
• New features - Including on-screen TV listings, widescreen picture and red-button interactivity.
• Access services - Some digital boxes have special features for people with visual and hearing impairments such as audio description and subtitling.
